$7,000 Grant to Grow Hand Camp!

Avon Hills Folk School received a $7,000 Project Grant from Central MN Arts Board to expand the outreach and class offerings for Hand Camp 2019, held September 20-22, 2019, Avon, MN. Funding for these CMAB Grants is provided through an appropriation from the Minnesota State Legislature with money from the state’s general fund, and its Arts & Cultural Heritage Fund created by the Voters of Minnesota.

We are looking to have some of our favorites return like Dan Horan the Leather Man, Birchbark Beth, and others! We’ll be finalizing the 2019 Instructor line-up this summer. Let us know if there’s a particular instructor you’d like to see at this year’s Hand Camp and we’ll try to get them signed up.

Hand Camp is an opportunity for adults of all ages to learn new skills and/or improve existing skills with hands-on projects, art, and creating. Past classes have included: spoon carving, weaving, natural dye making, adhesive free book binding, ceramics, leather working, birch bark weaving, and more. 

The weekend begins with folks gathering together on Friday night for camping and socializing. Classes are all day on Saturday, the day beginning with breakfast and ending with a large group meal. Primitive camping is provided on site and the classes take part throughout the 64 acre property and buildings where the Folk School is located.
