Conferences, Classes & Community
Hope you all had a fun-filled “Woodchuck Day” on February 2nd. It’s -13 below zero today with -32 below zero windchill expected til noon. Just what you’d expect for early February.
While it’s freezing outside we are thinking of Spring and classes and events at the Folk School for 2018.
Coming up this weekend is the Living In The Avon Hills Conference held at St. John’s University Saturday, February 10th. Check it out here.
The Avon Hills Folk School will have a table in the exhibit hall. Come on by and say hello, check out the events, classes for 2018. And please let us know what you’d be interested in for classes as well.
This spring, April 11-15 we will hold our first Timber Framing course, Basic Timber Framing taught by Clark Bremer.
Learn the planning, layout and joinery necessary to construct a traditional timber frame structure. Avon Hills Folk School’s Bouja kettle shelter and Sugar Shack are examples of this construction. The course begins with the basic mortise and tenon joint, and then expands on these technique as students cut the joinery for the class structure. In this case a timber framed Sauna (see photo: AHFS Sauna Spring 2018)
Clark is a professional Timber Framer and teaches occasionally at the North House Folk School in Grand Marais, MN. Clark will also be presenting at the Living In The Avon Hills Conference this coming Saturday – come on out and check it out.
