Volunteers Needed. No experience necessary. Just passion.

“I never even knew you guys existed.”

This is a comment we often hear from people as they first learn about the Avon Hills Folk School. In some ways this has been on purpose as we were not yet ready for lots of people to know about us.

Similar to not being ready for the general public to be aware, until now we have not felt ready to welcome volunteers to the folk school. Volunteers are an essential component to any successful folk school and we are no exception.

We are not only ready to welcome volunteers but absolutely need your involvement. Over the past several years we have built relationships, gained followers, added classes, experiences and received increased attention all leading to great momentum. It is now time to lean into this momentum and continue our growth.

There are big plans for our future and volunteers will be what makes them a reality. Individuals or groups are welcome and necessary. Large projects like re-erecting the 1889 Timber Frame barn and building of the open air timber frame Pavilion are in the works. But there is other work to do now.

Projects this fall include:

  • Walkways for the low, wet areas of trails along Spunk Creek.

  • Firewood split and stacked for Maple Syruping for 2023 and maybe even 2024

  • Paint the interior of the School Store

  • Community Bouja Party 2022, October 8th

  • Work in the lower level of the shed/classroom space

    • Insulate the walls and ceiling

    • Install paneling

    • Reglaze the windows

    • Volunteer at Winter Walk in St. Joseph, December 2022

Realizing our Vision for the Avon Hills Folk School will consist of many small steps and projects being completed. We hope you’ll consider being a part of that future.
