Twined Cattail Basket

In this class, students will learn the art of twining using cattail leaves to create a basket. Twining is a traditional weaving technique that uses two strands woven around upright supports, creating a strong and flexible structure.

We will begin by preparing cattail materials, discussing proper hydration to ensure they are workable and durable. Students will begin by weaving the base with a simple over under weave and work their way up to twining the sides.

By the end of the class, students will have created their own twined cattail basket and will leave with the skills to create more from the cattail they harvest on their own.

Please bring clips (clothespins, quilt clips, small clips) if you have some. Hand dexterity is required for this course.
