Folk School on Tap: Conservation and Community in the Avon Hills

Folk School on Tap: Conservation & Community in the Avon Hills

August 21 | 6:00–8:00 PM
at Avon Hills Folk School
Appetizers & non-alcoholic beverages provided

Join us, along with Leah Hall from Minnesota Land Trust for an evening of discovery, celebration, and community as we explore the power of Conservation Easements and their role in protecting the rich ecological tapestry of the Avon Hills.

What to Expect:

  • Truth vs. Myth: Learn how conservation easements can allow you to "have your cake and eat it too". We'll unpack the facts, dispel common misconceptions, and explain how landowners can protect their property while retaining ownership and many of their land use rights.

  • The Avon Hills: A Conservation Priority: Discover why the Minnesota Land Trust and other partners are deeply committed to protecting this extraordinary 65,000-acre region—home to rare species, vibrant forests, and some of the highest-quality native ecosystems in Stearns County.

The Avon Hills region is not just stunning—it's scientifically significant. Designated as an Audubon Important Bird Area and identified in the MN DNR’s Wildlife Action Plan, the hills shelter rare species like the cerulean warbler, Blanding’s turtle, and American ginseng. So far, more than 6,600 acres have been protected—thanks to visionary landowners and dedicated partners.

Come enjoy an evening at the Avon Hills Folk School, connect with neighbors, and learn how your land can be a part of something bigger.
