Annual Avon Hills Bouja 2016

After a 17 year break the Annual Schellinger Bouja is celebrating it’s 24th year!

We held a Bouja Party every fall for 23 years on the first Sunday of October, ending in 1999. The tradition started innocently enough as a way for Francis and Karen Schellinger to invite all their “city friends” out to the country as a way to see them at least once each year.

And come they did.

They came for the Bouja – the original Holy Spirit Parish recipe, though Francis would say he made some important improvements to it over the years.

They came for the farm – to see the animals that Francis and Karen kept. Chickens, horses and pigs – oh my! And a lot of other animals over they years. Damn near every thing but Llamas and Alpacas. They were not yet “trendy”.

They came for the natural beauty of the Avon Hills, the fall colors and the beautiful, babbling Spunk Brook as it coursed and tumbled through the property on it’s way to Upper Spunk Lake.

They came for the desserts – oh the Desserts!!! 30 feet of tables covered with desserts! And no way for parents to effectively control small children from eating more than they should.

But in the end they came for the Community. During the last 15 years or so well over 300 people from all walks of life would gather together on the first Sunday of October to be together, in community in the beauty of the Avon Hills and to experience the hospitality of Francis and Karen.

Since the Avon Hills Folk School is at it’s core about building Community – we’re bringing it back!

Please join us on Saturday, October 15th from 1-5 p.m.

We are re-branding it as the Annual Avon Hills Bouja – and we’d like you to come!

We’ll provide the Bouja, bread and some simple beverages. All we ask is that you bring a dessert to share – and yourself!
