TOM WICKS

(he/him)

Tom and his wife Vickie have lived on a hobby farm west of St. Joseph since 1982. Creativity, innovation, adaptability, re-purposing, resourcefulness and grit are assets that have served Tom and Vickie well developing an old farmstead into “Home Sweet Home”.

Saving a late 1800’s log home occupied much of their time in the early years while remodeling and upgrading continues into their retirement years. Building outbuildings for critters and farm machinery happened bit by bit as the ol’ farmstead was resurrected from many old structures that had seen there better years and had to be removed.

Of course a large country garden is central to this country life and a touch of sweetness each spring making maple syrup.

Working with our hands building up our hobby farm included woodworking and crafting on many different levels. Tom enjoys woodworking big and small and enjoys sharing the joy of making something with your own hands with others at the Avon Hills Folk School.

Tom spends many hours during the summer at the Avon Hills Folks School offering TimberNook to youth 18 months to 12 years of age.
